Eyerus Sisay

Eyerus was one of our first 10 students who joined the fund in 2009. We have supported her through grades 11 and 12 at school and through 5 years at Axum University. She now has a BSc in Engineering and a handsome husband. It is time for her to leave the fund and we wish her every success for her future. We hope she keeps her smile!

Our Graduates 2016

THANK YOU

Without the support from the scholarship fund, we would never have seen this day.

We are very grateful to all who have contributed.

You have given us a chance of a future and we will do our best to grasp it with both hands.

Continuing Undergraduates 2015

12 of our continuing students are in the University system this year. 9 of them are scheduled to graduate in July 2016 and we wish them every success.

As all our students are from very poor backgrounds, often with illiterate parents, their success is amazing. They all have a thirst for education and will hopefully have a future very different from that of their parents.

It has been agreed that all these students will get a monthly payment of 600 birr with 2 performance related bonuses paying up to 400 birr each.

Continuing Undergraduates 2013

10 of our continuing students are in the University system this year. The main reason for this is that we are now in our 5th year and our students are working hard, succeeding and moving on.

As all our students are from very poor backgrounds, often with illiterate parents, their success is amazing. They all have a thirst for education and will hopefully have a future very different from that of their parents.

Eyerus Sisay

EYERUS-SISAY-20122012 Aged 18 Years

Eyerus has now completed her first year of engineering at Axum University.

She has been back in Lalibela for her summer break and I am delighted to see how much she has grown in confidence throughout the year.

It has been agreed to continue her monthly payment of 600 Birr with 2 performance related bonuses, paying up to 400 Birr each.

Eyerus Sisay

EYERUS-SISAY-20112011 Age 17 years

Eyerus is one of our success stories!

The money we have given her has let her concentrate on her studies instead of working as a servant. She has successfully completed her grade 12 studies and has just left Lalibela to study engineering at Axum University.

She is a very quiet, shy girl and I have never seen such a big smile as she had the day she came to tell me her news.

It has been agreed to give her a monthly payment of 600 Birr with 2 performance related bonuses, paying up to 400 Birr each.

Eyerus Sisay

EYERUS-SISAY-20092009 Age 15 years

Eyerus lives in Lalibela with an elderly aunt and uncle and their children. Her father died when she was 3 months old and her mother abandoned her when she was 6 months old. She has no contact with her mother. Her uncle is 80 years old and is now too old for labouring work.

In addition to her studies, Eyerus has gone to the hills, collecting firewood to sell, and thus helping to support the family.

Eyerus has done well in the grade 10 National exams. She has achieved a place in grade 11. It has been agreed to give her 500 Birr every month (£25), with an incentive bonus of 500 Birr on successful completion of grade 11.
